This project is a smelter complex for production of copper cathode by using copper concentrate produced from up-stream copper mine of Sungun. The project comprises the Smelter, Oxygen plant, Anode Casting, Slag Treatment & Recycling, Refinery and production of copper cathode plus all Utilities including waste heat recovery and utilization system, demineralized water plant, compressed air, fuel gas, Cooling Water, Fire Water, Electrical Networks, etc.
The main technological feature which has been adopted for smelting plant in this project is about smelting and converting furnaces type and their operation mechanisms. Regarding the smelter, generally there are two basic technology which are Flash smelting and Bath smelting furnaces. While flash smelting process introduced by OutoKumpu and Inco utilizes common process concept, there are varieties of knowhow and different configurations regarding Bath Smelting process. The main feature of utilized technology regarding selected bath smelting/converting furnaces for Sungun project is the Oxygen enriched Bottom Blowing smelting/converting furnaces which was developed by Chinese.
